Joseph A. Grabas, CTP has a long history in title education in the State of New Jersey. Even before he became a NJ State Certified Title Instructor in 1990, Joe worked as an educational consultant for prominent businesses within the title industry. As one of the Founding Trustees of the New Jersey Land Title Institute, Joe instructed the 60 Hour Title Insurance Pre-licensing Education course for many years at Rutgers University, Drew University and Bloomfield College. Over the years he has appeared on the dais for seminars presented by the NJLTI, The Title Academy and Half Moon Seminars on topics ranging from Railroads and Canals to Tax Liens and Judgments. For the past decade, Joe has brought his knowledge and experience to the NJDOBI Title Insurance Licensing Exam Review Committee.
Since the beginning of his tenure in the Title Abstracting and Title Insurance profession in 1978, Joe has performed extensive title research in four States, all twenty-one counties in New Jersey, the records of the New Jersey State Archives, the East and West Jersey Board of Proprietors and Conrail. He has testified in New Jersey Courts as an expert witness in matters regarding real property records, title research, title insurance and conveyancing. Over the past 25 years, Joe gained much of his experience as the owner and operator of a successful title agency and one of the largest title search companies in the State.
Mr. Grabas appeared before committees and members of the New Jersey State Legislature, the Division of Archives and Records Management and the State Records Committee to testify on proposed legislation and regulations affecting the transfer of real property and the maintenance of the real property records. He has appeared before members of the United States Congress to advise them of the impact that certain Federal Legislation would have upon the Title Industry, the real property transfer system and the real estate consumer. In 1992, Joe was designated a Certified Title Professional by the New Jersey Land Title Association. He went on to serve as President of the NJLTA from 1998-1999
Joe graduated from Monmouth University, Summa Cum Laude with a degree in History, concentrating his research on the early history of New Jersey. He has done extensive research into the history of New Jersey Land Titles and Boundaries and is a regular contributor to The Advocate, the official publication of the NJLTA. Joe supports and remains active in the NJ History community and is a member of the International History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta. Joe is an Eagle Scout and embraces the importance of education and a duty to nurture intellectual discourse within the Title Industry.
